Helping people stop smoking

If you are looking to get pregnant, and you have arrived at this website, it is not by chance. Approaching a hypnotherapist for infertility feels like your last spin of the dice – you may be thinking you have given everything else a go, so why not some therapy or hypnosis? You are very likely to either be undergoing or completed some IVF cycles, undergone many tests, seen numerous Doctors and specialists, analysed everything about you and your partner – looking for that special something that could help you conceive.

We know how stressful and demanding the whole situation can be on you, combined with feelings of hopelessness and isolation, which can then have further ramifications on your mental and physical state.

At Feel Good Hypnotherapy, we completely understand the desire for you wanting to start a family, as well as the emotional distress of infertility. We almost take it as a given that when we are ready to create our own children, our bodies will just work and nature will take its course. Unfortunately, nature can take its course in a different direction to what we had planned, and over time we get the feeling that our body is not exactly on the same side and not working with us. From the outside, it seems so easy for everyone else – why not us?

Clinically, a couple will only be diagnosed as infertile if they have not managed to have a baby after one year of trying. Approximately one in seven couples may have difficulty in conceiving, resulting in ~3.5 million people in the UK. However, the vast majority of couples (84%) will conceive naturally within one year with regular unprotected sex. Some women naturally fall pregnant quickly, but for others it can take longer. The NHS recommends women over the age of 36, and anyone aware of fertility problems, to see their GP.

Unfortunately, there is no one factor that can be pinpointed as to the cause of infertility. There are many reasons for women and men not being able to conceive naturally. Women can experience ovulation disorders, endometriosis, damaged womb or fallopian tubes, pelvic inflammatory disease and age-related infertility. Male infertility can be attributed to abnormal semen, damaged testicles, hypogonadism, some medicines and drugs and alcohol. Factors common to both men and women include weight issues, STIs, smoking, occupation/environmental factors and stress.

Hypnotherapy is very successful in helping overcome infertility* because it deals with the unconscious part of your mind, which is where permanent change can take place. As mentioned earlier, because we expect to easily conceive, the pressure increases slowly over time as a lack of success becomes apparent, and as time wears on we heap more stress and pressure on ourselves, causing frustration, a lack of control and isolation. In the course of the therapy session, we will fully explore your behaviours, work together to build a strong mind/body connection and identify any ‘programs’ that might be running in your mind, which could be subconsciously affecting your chances of pregnancy. During the hypnotic trance, with the therapists’ guidance you can let yourself become more mentally and physically calm, serene and relaxed, significantly reducing your stress levels. By using hypnotherapy to build a foundation of calmness, we can use powerful suggestion and visualisation to work on your reproductive system, empower it and fully maximise the IVF cycle you might be currently on. With a stronger foundation and awareness of yourself, and reduced negative self-talk or limiting beliefs, you can take greater control of your mind, your body and what you want to achieve.
